Board games from the 60’s

Not too long ago, I went to my mother’s home - you’ve heard me talk about the amazing woman that is Genie? She still lives in my childhood home and though my dad passed away in 2016, mom never wants to move into a smaller place. It is always fun to spend time there and I almost always come home with a bit of history. This time it was my history - mine and my two older brothers’ history. A treasure trove of the games we played on Saturdays and during the summertime.

Boy these bring back memories, all except the chess set, which I never liked. I learned how each piece moves and lost interest from there. Too much thinking several moves ahead. My big brothers were great at it. Which probably explains a lot of my childhood.

Of all these games, Slap Stick has to be my all time favorite. The game is not in the best of shape because it was an action game and each player had a stick that looked like a spatula and the game would often get out of hand with my brothers “accidentally” slapping me with their stick. They totally misunderstood the rules of the game and I spent most of the time saying “Ow! You’re not playing right. Quit hitting me! I’m telling Mom. Ouch!” None of the sticks survived unbroken. Good times!

Do you remember any of these games? What was your favorite?
